In the United States today, more than 2.7 million children have a parent in prison. That’s roughly one child in every classroom. Over 10 million kids have lived through a parent’s incarceration at some point, and nearly half of them faced it before they even turned ten.

For many of these kids, education feels out of reach long before college applications ever cross their minds. The Venus Morris Griffin Scholarship exists to change that by investing directly in students who are determined to build a different future.

Each scholarship is funded by proceeds from Venus’s speaking engagements and by donations from people who believe, like she does, that a parent’s sentence should not decide a child’s story.
